Lana Del Rey's Singles
Most of Lana Del Rey's single covers are stills from her music videos.
As the video for "Video Games was unconventional the single cover is one of the only ones to be an actual photo shoot. The cover shows Lana as quite juvenile and adolescent with flowers in her hair and a cross on her neck but her sultry pose suggests a wilder side.
The single cover for "Born to Die was taken from the opening scene for the music video. It features Lana in the arms of a heavily tattoo man, possibly the lover her songs are about. The American flag as the backdrop could suggest that she is very proud to be American.
Here we have the single cover for "Blue Jeans'. Again it is a shot from the actual music video. But the major difference is that the music video was actually in black and white.
This is was from a flashback scene for Del Rey's music video for "Summertime Sadness". I think that the image works really well because she does look really sad in the picture, it may not depict actual summer but it has managed to implement some aspects of the song.
The music video for "National Anthem" was actually a short film and this shot was taken from the opening introduction in which Del Rey was emulating Marilyn Monroe when she sang happy birthday to J.F.K in the 60s.
Again, the music video for "Ride" was a short film and this tyre swing image was taken from the opening scene in which Del Rey gives a monologue before the actual song starts. This image stands out from the rest for me, Del Rey's signature, glamourous style is missing and she has gone for a more rustic, indie look for this video.

Looking at album artwork
Today we have started to look at print products and CD packaging to accompany our music video. We have to come up with a design for the digi-pack that will include a front cover, a back cover, a left insert and a CD disc design. Along with this we also need to create an advertisement for the single's release.
