Lana Del Rey's Singles
Most of Lana Del Rey's single covers are stills from her music videos.
As the video for "Video Games was unconventional the single cover is one of the only ones to be an actual photo shoot. The cover shows Lana as quite juvenile and adolescent with flowers in her hair and a cross on her neck but her sultry pose suggests a wilder side.
The single cover for "Born to Die was taken from the opening scene for the music video. It features Lana in the arms of a heavily tattoo man, possibly the lover her songs are about. The American flag as the backdrop could suggest that she is very proud to be American.
Here we have the single cover for "Blue Jeans'. Again it is a shot from the actual music video. But the major difference is that the music video was actually in black and white.
This is was from a flashback scene for Del Rey's music video for "Summertime Sadness". I think that the image works really well because she does look really sad in the picture, it may not depict actual summer but it has managed to implement some aspects of the song.
The music video for "National Anthem" was actually a short film and this shot was taken from the opening introduction in which Del Rey was emulating Marilyn Monroe when she sang happy birthday to J.F.K in the 60s.
Again, the music video for "Ride" was a short film and this tyre swing image was taken from the opening scene in which Del Rey gives a monologue before the actual song starts. This image stands out from the rest for me, Del Rey's signature, glamourous style is missing and she has gone for a more rustic, indie look for this video.

Looking at album artwork
Today we have started to look at print products and CD packaging to accompany our music video. We have to come up with a design for the digi-pack that will include a front cover, a back cover, a left insert and a CD disc design. Along with this we also need to create an advertisement for the single's release.

Video Pitch
Today the class showed there pretty much finished music videos to our own class and a BTEC group so that there could be more opinions. They all pretty much liked our video and loved the editing techniques that we used but some didn't understand the ending but this was intentional as we wanted the audience to be able to interpret the video for themselves.

Nearly there!
With some help we managed to work out how to do the fading away segments. It involved a lot of cutting up and layering and changing the opacity etc. but it's done! Now all there is to do is to make sure everything that isn't a flashback is in monochrome and all the lip synching is correct and that we have a very good music video!

Editing
Been editing away for the last few days, sorting through what's usable from the first shoot and using most of the second. Have also sorted out most of the lip synching, just the fading and layer to do next!

Reshoot! P.2
So today we reshot are music video. I think it went rather well and that we got everything that we needed. Another reshoot isn't really an option so this has to be perfect.

Tavel Information
The two actors will meet me outside of college and we will all get the 357 to our location. The weather looks good, so fingers crossed it's second time lucky!

New Location
Most of our graveyard scenes are fine and don't need to be reshot so we aren't going back there. Due to time and connivence we have decided to shoot in a new location, Hollow Ponds, a forest near our college. It has various scenic settings that will be good for a backdrop. The reshoot is planned for this Saturday in order to meet our deadline for filming. We will use all the same actors, costumes and props for continuity purposes.

Reshoot!
After reviewing our work we have decided to reshoot certain scenes from our video as they weren't up to standard. Key things we have to reshoot are the lip-synching and forest scene. One of the main problems we faced was the camera shaking due to a light-weight tripod. Also there where some very unflattering shots of the actress that can't be used. Some of the filming that we've done to edit later hadn't been shot properly so that has to be reshot as well.

First Day Back
So today is our first day back, we are going to look at our video and see about any edits that need to be done and if there's a need for a reshoot.

Wrapped Up!
We finished all of our filming today. Hooray! We shot everything we needed to shoot and are ready to go and edit! Today was met with various complications (rain) but that was to be expected.
Filming Day!
Today is day 1 of filming, we are all really excited. I'm bringing a suitcase with me! It has my tripod, camera, spare camera parts and a lovely thick coat in case the weather goes bad (which will most likely happen.) Hopefully we'll shoot everything we have planned for today so that we can be ready for tomorrow.

Final Costumes
Our cast members have sent us pictures of their costumes.
They fit in well with our plans for the video. Like the music video style research the actress will be wearing a white dress, her hair however will not be curled due to the fact that it is not the length that we desire, so it will remain straight. She will also have two black dresses to wear in other scenes.

Travel Arrangements
The two actor will meet me at my house and we will get either the 97, 215 or 357 to Adina's house. From Adina's house we will meet Margaret and travel to the park to shoot our first scenes.

Location, Location, Location!
This is where most of the flashback scenes will be filmed.
This is where all the graveyard scenes will be shot and also some of the forest scenes.
As you can see the locations are really close together so we won't have to travel long distances.

Looking at Costumes and Style
Lana Del Rey is known for her classic, vintage, glamourous style. We hope to convey this is our music video.
Blue Jeans:
The music video for "Blue Jeans was shot entirely in black and white. This adds a sense of sophistication and glamour to the video. As the primary setting for the video was a pool the only costume Lana Del Rey wears is a swimming costume. It is completely white so it works well with the monochrome. The who video is rather intense and yet still has elegance to it.
Summertime Sadness:
The music video was very artistic and LDR doesn't actually feature heavily in it. But when she does she dons her signature curls and is wearing a white dress.
Burning Desire:
In "Burning Desire" LDR the setting is very simple. She is performing on a stage in a classic theatre which is empty. This scene is all full of lip synch and is overlapped by shots of a car driving. It also alternates between black and white and colour. For the third time, Del Rey's hair is in curls and she wears a white dress.National Anthem:
The music video for "National Anthem had a more specific theme to it. It was set in the 1960's and was based around the Kennedy's, with Del Rey playing Jackie O. At the beginning of the video she seems to be Marilyn Monroe acting out the classic time that Monroe sang happy birthday to the President. Throughout the video there are a lot of signature styles of the 60's from the attire to the hair.
Born to Die:
The "Born to Die" music video is rather performance based and it has a strong narrative of a distressed, abusive relationship. It has strong artistic elements and beautiful locations. This is another time wear Del Rey's hair is in curls and she wears a white dress.
Ride:
"Ride" is another narrative video, it tells the story of girl who never really belonged and had to work her way from the bottom to the top. She is featured multiple times in the video in various different outfits. This is a more laid back video compared to others by Del Rey and Hollywood glamour doesn't feature high in this video. Her hair is in an unruly 70s style perm and not its usual sleek self.
FINAL ANALYSIS
After looking at all of Lana Del Rey's music video's and analysing them I think that the more vintage and classic the better. There should be heavy eye make up and sophisticated clothes. The actresses hair should be curled and she should wear a white dress.
